OPPO had a hard time this weekend from blow pumps to dumping bikes. Mine contribution can from my cousin who backed into the Allroad on Friday night. Hes being a good guy about it and helping fix it up.

Kinja'd!!!

the damage appears to be limited to that fender, and maybe some plastic clips in the bumper/plastic fender. The first thing we’re going to do is order a new fender and see what else we can get back into place.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PASSENGER-…

the largest problem remaining now is the color. I can;t find a green one so I’m left to either try to get it sprayed to match or plasti-dip the whole car.

whats it take to dip a car? will it ever look good? is it cheaper just to have a shop color match and properly spray it?

I would just have a shop color match it.

Aww, damn man, sorry to hear it. Definitely could have been worse, though.

Agreed with Shop-Teacher, if you’re going through insurance anyway, definitely have a shop color match it. This can of course be hit or miss, but they can usually get pretty close.

Love that color, BTW.

thres 3 things i’me factoring into this

1st : cost

2: will plasti-dip look ok

3: the rest of the paint looks the 13 y/o it is and this could possibly improve that, given #2 is acceptable

we’re not doing insurance. we’re thinking with the costs of point hikes and shit, he’ll get away easier if we keep it between us. And hey, its an excuse to rip the car apart again.

I would love a super dark purple or copper color

Put on company stickers, and advertise at the same time.

Spraying to match should only be a few hundred (besides, your cousin should be paying for this), I can’t imagine you could get the materials for dipping an entire car for less. Then there’s the work, which there will be a LOT of to do a whole car.

We’ve all seen pictures on the intratubes of dipped cars. Occasionally they look fantastic. Usually they look ratty. Some cars look pretty cool ratty, but yours looks really nice, so I’d hate to see it go that way.

4. Dipping won’t last long term.

I can’t really tell from the picture but I’m assuming the paint has cracked insides the folds?

A dark copper color would look awesome on an AR. Let us know what you go with!

yea i guess i’ll look into the shop path then. I figured it would be like $500 and the plasti-dip would be just a couple hundred at most. At some point I would want to repaint the whole car as its all scratched up.

He is gunna pay, but I’m trying to take the least expensive option possible while still getting the car to look good.

yea shop-teacher gave some more insight, and it sounds like I will have a hard time getting the dip to look good and it won;t be any cheaper

its the wrong gen but damn its pretty:

That makes sense, but IMO worn factory paint looks better than a cheapie anything.

Find one from a junk yard in the right color?
http://car-part.com/ says these guys http://www.shawautoparts.com/ have one in green for $150 undamaged

unless you’re really confident in your ability to plastidip or really want to go all out, i’d say leave the quarter panel repair/matching to a pro. If the rest of your bumpers are faded, i would recommend dipping them to get a nice even black color (and because uneven fading might drive you crazy like me).

Bummer. You should probably check with some body shops to see what they’d charge to repair and match your existing panel before you order another. Or just hold out for a green one.

Fenders typically aren’t sold with paint. You get one with primer applied and paint it yourself. A quick Google search will get you the paint you need.

holy fucking shit. there was a place on there half an hour from my house i never knew existed with a fender. guy said $125

the fender is toast, fixing is not cost effective. There will be some damage behind all that so be prepared for things to not line up properly. If you don’t have the knowledge to know what to pound on to get it to sit right pay someone to do so. Just paint the fender, it won’t match 100% buy nobody will notice or care but you. It will take blending the hood and adjacent door to make it right. I’ve gotten lucky sometimes and was able to achieve a dob match with no blend...can be done. Find a well respected shop to paint it, they’ll try hardest to match.

Please don’t dip your car.

i was looking for a used one, ebay had a few but one of the other responses led me to a site that led me to a local place i hadn;t heard of before and they have a green one in good condition for $125

i actually just found a green fender in a yard not far from me. The fender is most certainly toast. I think there is a support bracket behind it that i’ll collect as well. i’m not going to dip it.

I only know half of what i’m doing but i’ve done pretty good with everything so far. luckily the adjacent panels were not effected

fender still may not be a perfect match so be prepared for that. There are batch variants and possible respray to think of...still, it’ll do and is the best option. GL, hope it all buttons up nicely with little fuss. Put some tape on the adjacent door for protection when lining it up and get that line right first.
